Courier vs. Mail – More Difference Than You Thought!

April 16, 2014

Power Link Expedite servicesIf you have some packages you need to mail, you may wonder what would be the best way to do that. With today’s technology at hand, you have a number of options. First, consider the difference between courier and regular mail.

Pick Up Differences

When you mail a package through the regular mail, you have to package it up and take it to the post office. Then, you have to wait in line and have the package measured and weighed. You may even have to disclose the contents of the package. All of this takes time. When you send a package by courier, you never have to go anywhere at all. The courier company will pick up the package from your premises.

Cost Differences

While regular mail can be rather costly, it is generally less expensive than sending a package by courier. In the past, it used to be a huge difference, but today, that is not the case. Today, there is still a cost difference, but it is not nearly as noticeable.

Delivery Options

When you mail a package the regular way, the post office will tell you the package should arrive on a certain day. They do not give you a specific time and you can never guarantee that the package will really make it there on the exact day you have specified. Couriers can give you written guarantees that your package will not only make it on the right day, but even at a specific time if that is what you want. You can have the package taken to its new location immediately or you can have it held for a day, a week or longer.

Reliability

The regular mail is rather reliable, but things do get lost from time to time. If you value your package dearly, and do not want to take any chances, you should perhaps consider a courier. Courier companies make it a priority to get your package where it needs to go on time and safely.

Competition

There are no competitors to help drive down the cost of sending a package via regular mail. If you choose to use a courier, you have options. You can go with this company or that company. Because there are so many options, you get to choose what types of services you need based on what you want. Competition in the courier business gives you a chance to choose a company that best serves your needs.

Convenience

If you do not mind making a trip to the post office or if you have one nearby, it might be convenient for you to drop off your package at the post office. If, on the other hand, it is an ordeal to go to the post office, having a courier come to you after just making one phone call is rather convenient.

If you have to send a letter, the post office is easier and cheaper. If you have packages to send and you want to make sure they arrive safely, it might be wise to use a courier company.
